Use of Technology, a double-edged sword

Software may either assist in mediation of misconceptions or deteriorate them.

It is crucial to understand that utilizing software does not solve all problems teachers encounter in classroom. It also has its own drawbacks. This thus means educators need to think critically and creatively about choice of simulations and processes of utilizing them. You have traveled miles thus far, it is therefore your task to think critically about you have learnt. Your activity is as follows:

Identify 3 chemistry and 3 Physics misconceptions which could be mediated by using simulations. Explain why software intervention may be considered as a "double-edged sword" in each of the misconception. This is your Task 1. (Present your work in a microsoft word document)

Task 2
Use microsoft word document to tabulate advantages and disadvantages of using simulation games in a classroom. Beneath the table, recommend strategies to subdue the drawbacks.

Submission of task 1 and 2
  • Create a folder inside your course folder on one drive. Entitle this folder "Week 4"
  • Upload these documents (Task 1 and 2) in your folder. Remember, your course file should be shared with me using my email address (Task during the orientation).
